New Stuff!

If it has been awhile since you’ve checked out the rest of our web site, I encourage you to take another tour.  We’ve been adding audio sermons and video messages the last few weeks for your encouragement and edification.

Also, remember to pray for us and the upcoming Effective Evangelism Explosion training that will take place July 23-25, 2010 right here in San Francisco.  We ask specific prayers for those who will be going out on the streets to put into practice what they’ve learned in the training sessions. Please pray for Divine Appointments for our team members to find those hungry for Jesus and a new life.

We also have places where you can sign up to be a prayer intercessor–just go to Contact Us and complete the form.  Word of mouth referrals are always the best and we hope you’ll tell your friends about the resources on our site so they can be taught and blessed, too.

In Christ,

Happy Birthday America!

234 years old we are as of Sunday, July 4th, 2010.  Sounds pretty old, but in the scheme of time, it’s a drop in the bucket!

Please continue to pray for our country, for our leaders on all levels of government, and for the church in America. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says: “If my people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked way, then will I hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

It’s time for repentance and for seeking God’s face if we want to see our country turn back towards God.

God bless you now and always!

Roles, Not Rules

This post is a continuation of my last where we briefly looked at the role of women as designed by God. We might also explain this as a woman’s office.  Webster’s Dictionary defines office this way: A special duty, charge or position conferred by an exercise of governmental authority; a position of authority or some degree of executive authority.

To understand what this Biblical teaching is about, we need to understand that a person’s God-given office isn’t a reflection of their abilities.  We aren’t discussing talent, intellect, capability, or ability.  Each person has a unique set of these qualities that makes them special and no two people have the same set.  We’re not talking about a gender comparison either.

God is the ultimate authority and He has given men and women different offices.  If we confuse or mingle the responsibilities or the authority that accompanies each office, we’ll end up in confusion and strife.

Genesis 2:18-24 establishes that woman was created to be a helpmate to man; as women, we hold the office of helpmate.  This is an awesome responsibility especially when a husband and wife submit themselves to Christ and to each other.  Ephesians 5:22-33 instructs the husband to love and cherish his wife like he does his own body, and wives are instructed to respect their husbands.

If both the husband and wife see themselves as the head of the marriage, there will be strife and confusion. No country, state, or even corporation has more than one head.  There has to be a final decision-maker.  Take a look at the Trinity: God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Each is part of the God-head yet each holds a different office with different responsibilities.  The Holy Spirit did not save us, Jesus Christ did.  Jesus Christ was not our Creator, Father God was.  If we praise the Holy Spirit, He takes that praise to Jesus.

They are not jealous of each other nor do they strive to be the head authority because they understand the importance of their respective offices.  Likewise, men and women, within a marriage or even in the workplace, when they understand and accept their office, will have peace through this obedience. Try to usurp the authority or office of our husband and we’ll bring strife and confusion to the marriage.

Jesus told us that He came not be served but to serve.  He set aside His authority in Heaven, stepped onto earth and became a servant to us as an example of how we should live.  Jesus didn’t consider Himself too good to be a servant so why in the world to we demean servanthood?  It is an honor to serve another and to lay aside one’s own ambitions and desires to lift up and exhort another, to be their helpmate and serve them.

Ponder this during the week and start practicing servanthood and see what happens in your marriage or in your other relationships.  Joyous servanthood is freeing!

Grace and peace to you in Jesus’ Name!

Time Flies!

It is hard to believe June is here already!!  Seems like just yesterday that I wrote the last blog.  Oh well!

God has been speaking to us again about authority and the spiritual office we each hold as men and women. I say “again” because this is a topic God taught us about many years ago and He still thinks it is important.

We have discovered that men and women in our country are confused by their roles mainly because our society, via the media, has decided that the roles should be reversed. The women’s liberation movement began in earnest in the 1970s and after 40 years of media training, they have succeeded in confusing everyone, both men and women.

Before you decide to tune out, I’m a woman who was raised in this same environment! The reason I think differently is because I have read the Bible and decided LONNNNGGGGG ago that God knows what He’s doing.  We are His creation, the Bible is our instruction book, and it is up to us to follow it if we want things (society, families, personal life) to work right.

Imagine buying a nice new car (they always comes with an instruction book).  Something goes wrong the 2nd day you have the car so you get out your trusty little book and look up the problem.  The book tells you to put in Hi-Octane gasoline instead of Regular due to some fine point of engineering.  If you use Regular gasoline, the book says, it will eventually damage the engine and require very costly repairs.

Now you have a decision to make.  Do you obey the owners manual or do you do what you want.  Hmmmmm, long engine life or short engine life and BIG repair bills?  Think I’ll go with Hi-Octane; I don’t like it but I want this car to last a long time and be trouble free.

Now the Bible is OUR owner’s manual with instructions for how to live long and happy lives. The instructions might not agree with what we think or with what society tells us but the instructions are from THE Manufacturer.  Our decision is whether or not to do what the Instruction Book says.

Take a look at Galatians 5:16-24.  This passage tells us that the flesh (OUR desires) and our Spirit are in opposition to each other. Sound familiar?  Think about this passage and tune in next week for another installment where we’ll explore our roles as designed by God.

Grace and peace to you,

Dottie

Power of Prayer

Recently I received an e-mail with a prayer by Pastor Joe Wright which he delivered to the Kansas House of Representatives at their opening session in 1996. It is a beautiful prayer that is full of truth, full of wisdom, and full of controversy.  The controversy began that very day as several Representatives walked out in protest during the prayer.  When Pastor Wright finished his prayer and left, he had no idea the impact his simple but profound prayer had had.

His prayer is included below because it strikes at the heart of our sin in this country. I say “our sin” because we live in this country and the country’s sin is our sin. Since we take ownership of the sin, we also take ownership of the right to bring change through prayer, through repentance, and through action wherever possible. Truth makes many uncomfortable. If this prayer makes you uncomfortable, perhaps it is time to allow God to search your heart and remove anything that is not like Him.

God Himself tells us in II Chronicles 7:14:  “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”  Our country does need prayer, not just one day a year, but every day. Join with us to pray for our great country today and every day. Pray with us in repentance, pray with us that God will forgive our sin and heal our land.

Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and seek your direction and guidance.

We know your Word says, “Woe to those who call evil good,” but that’s exactly what we’ve done.

We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and inverted our values.

We confess that we have ridiculed the absolute truth of your Word and called it moral pluralism.

We have worshipped other gods and called it multiculturalism.

We have endorsed perversion and called it an alternative lifestyle.

We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.

We have neglected the needy and called it self-preservation.

We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.

We have killed our unborn and called it choice.

We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.

We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building esteem.

We have abused power and called it political savvy.

We have coveted our neighbors’ possessions and called it ambition.

We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.

We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, O God, and know our hearts today; try us and see if there be some wicked way in us; cleanse us from every sin and set us free.

Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent here by the people of [your state’s name], and who have been ordained by you to govern this great state.

Grant them your wisdom to rule and may their decisions direct us to the center of your will. I ask it in the name of your Son, the Living Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Amen!
